This estimate uses Services Australia rates for 20 September 2026 to the day before 1 January 2027. Supplements and Rent Assistance are excluded.
Choose the rate situation Services Australia has assessed for you. This tool does not decide eligibility for a special rate, living-away rate or principal-carer exemption.
Enter assessable income before tax. Enter zero if you have none.
Leave blank for no credits. Enter the opening balance for this fortnight, up to $13,500.00. This is not a bank ledger.

A single full-time student receiving Austudy has $800.00 assessable income per fortnight and no opening Student Income Bank credits. Their maximum basic rate is $677.20.
The personal income test reduces the basic rate by $145.90, giving $531.30 per fortnight before supplements or other assessments.

This calculator exists to show you the arithmetic. It applies published Australian rates, thresholds and formulas to the numbers you enter and shows the working, so you can check it. That is all it does — it produces a number and describes what the number is. It does not recommend anything and it holds no opinion about any financial product.

Austudy generally serves eligible students and Australian Apprentices from age 25. Select the rate situation Services Australia has assessed for you. The basic rate is reduced by the personal income test and, for a partnered person, the applicable partner test.
The income-free area for full-time students and Australian apprentices is $539.00 per fortnight. Students use Student Income Bank credits up to $13,500.00; apprentices use a separate Australian Apprentice Income Bank up to $1,000.00. Enter the opening balance for your activity; this estimates one fortnight and does not infer your credit history.
A partner without a payment must be below pension age for this estimate. A partner receiving a pension or service pension follows a combined-income test. Other benefit partners and a pension-partner case with bank credits need Services Australia to assess them.

Austudy is an income support payment for eligible older students and Australian Apprentices. This calculator applies a user-selected basic rate and the supported income tests.
The result is not an eligibility decision. Assets, waiting periods, partner benefit circumstances and supplements need separate assessment.
This calculator uses the basic Austudy rate for your selected assessed situation, then applies personal and, where relevant, partner income tests. It excludes Energy Supplement, Pharmaceutical Allowance and Rent Assistance. Services Australia decides eligibility and the amount.
Austudy does not apply the Youth Allowance parental income test. This calculator therefore has no parental-income or independence input. Services Australia still assesses Austudy eligibility, including study and residency requirements. See the Austudy income tests.
The student income-free area in this table is $539.00 per fortnight. Income above it can reduce the basic rate. An eligible Student Income Bank or Australian Apprentice Income Bank balance may offset part of that income. See Services Australia's Austudy income tests.
A full-time student can enter Student Income Bank credits up to $13,500.00. An Australian apprentice has a separate Australian Apprentice Income Bank capped at $1,000.00. The estimate uses credits against this fortnight's excess income or adds unused free area when income is lower. It does not reconstruct earlier fortnights. See the student bank rules and apprentice bank rules.
It can. A partner with no payment below pension age is subject to a partner income test. A pension or service-pension partner uses a combined-income test. This calculator supports those two cases only. Other benefit partners need an individual assessment under the DSS income rules.
Austudy generally applies from age 25. Younger students and Australian Apprentices may instead need Youth Allowance, subject to Services Australia's eligibility decision. Compare the Youth Allowance calculator.
No. This basic-rate estimate excludes Rent Assistance. Its separate conditions depend on the accommodation and underlying payment. Use the Rent Assistance calculator for a separate rent-based estimate.
Estimate housing support separately with the Rent Assistance Calculator. For younger students, see the Youth Allowance Calculator.
